I was always a big kid growing up.
By the time I hit my teens, I was 6 feet tall,
and about
300 pounds. I wrestled in high school, did pretty good,
and was a district
champion as a junior. I was basically introduced to weights when I started wrestling.
I
always
liked to bench. It was just fun. Most of the other
stuff was work.
Around 1996, I went to a bench
competition with some friends from a gym.
I was hooked. I think
I benched around 420 that day, raw.
In 1999 I benched 540. I was stuck there for a long time. I was
fresh out of college and working hard at my career as a mechanical engineer, so the training suffered a little.
In 2002 I decided to get serious. I hit 600 at 2002 WNPF Worlds. I started to learn about training methods, and
worked my way up to 645 in the spring of 2003.
Then I entered a new phase in my life. I met Bill Crawford, and I became part of the Metal Militia.
I benched 700 the day I met Bill.
I put an official 700 on the board that summer, and broke into the
800's in September 2003 at the WPO Bench Bash with an 810 bench. My first trip to the Arnold Classic in
March
2004 saw a second place finish with 859! Less than 2 months later I managed a third place finish at
Bench America 2
with 726 in a single ply poly shirt, on a very off day.
These days, I stand 6'3” tall, and I weigh in around 350 pounds, depending on my stage in training. I live
in Deptford , NJ ,
and I am a Mechanical Engineer by day, powerlifter, coach, and judge on the weekends.
Now, I am continuing my quest towards a 1000
pound bench press.... |
